Why Dee is running
In 2016, after the current administration came into office, a group of Rabun County citizens and I decided to re-activate our local Democratic Party. For the previous 20 years, I had enjoyed living in Rabun County as an active volunteer and bi-partisan coalition builder.
I was perfectly content in this role. Last fall, I ran for a seat on the Clayton City Council. I lost by nine votes and then continued building bipartisan coalitions.
Last winter, when it came time to identify a Democratic candidate to run for the open District 50 state senator seat, no one stood up. Friends and party elders encouraged me to run, but I hesitated.
I had never aspired to run for a state office. But, given the urgent needs facing our country, as an act of responsibility, I stepped out from my personal comfort and prepared to face the slings and arrows that come with running for public office.
Once I made the decision to run, I meant business. Since then, our campaign has taken off like lightning!
We are a group of Republicans, Independents, Libertarians and Democrats. Our common goal is to restore compassion, good jobs, access to healthcare, common sense, civil discourse, and integrity in government.
As your state senator, I will put my business skills, patriotism, and determination to good use, working across the aisle to get things done. My vision is to unite us as “...one nation under God, with liberty and justice for all."
I invite you to join us. Our campaign welcomes people of all political affiliations or none.
